FMC-Outlook™ is a certified FMComponent™ that utilizes the FMConnector™ (learn
more) to communicate between any FileMaker® Pro solution and Microsoft
Outlook®. FMC-Outlook™ enables Outlook Contacts, Outlook eMails, Outlook
Tasks, Outlook Appointments and Outlook Notes, to be created directly from a
FileMaker® Pro solution, or retrieved to your FileMaker solution, and be fully
synchronized both real-time or when returning to the office.
Modifications to Outlook items created from FileMaker are immediately posted back to FileMaker upon saving them or sending them in Outlook (for example adding attachments, recipients, or modifying start and end times). Users can make changes in the Outlook items and have those changes posted immediately back to the FileMaker record. Imagine being able to drag-and-drop an Outlook appointment created from your FileMaker solution to a new time or day, and seeing the FileMaker record updated instantly! Copies of eMails and file attachments (for eMail, Tasks and Appointments) are archived in a file storage location, making it possible for anyone to review an Outlook item created from FileMaker including the attachments. This allows users to quickly search Outlook item information directly within FileMaker.
Existing Outlook items can be manually selected and retrieved to the appropriate
FileMaker file (including all details and attachments), or manually matched to
an existing FileMaker record.
FMC-Outlook is not a plug-in or a cheap imitation; it is the real thing. It includes
an Add-in that traps for all Outlook change events including record modifications
and folder movement. Users can move individual items, or complete folders of
items, anywhere in their Outlook, without breaking any functionality. Outlook
items will remain synchronized with FileMaker records, and all functions will
continue to operate normally.
Integration of FMC-Outlook is very simple. Individual application files can be
called with a single SEND MESSAGE script command, needing only a minimal number
of fields and a single layout for implementation. This makes it easy for
developers to integrate only the functionality they need to, without any Visual
Basic, VBScript, XML, or complex plug-in scripting methodologies.
This is a technology that we use with our client projects. It is not commercially available to the public or other developers. If you are interested in having this technology implemented into your solution, then please contact us.
If there is something else you are looking for, then talk to us; we probably have been there, and done that, but just not had time to post it yet.
Features:
General
Implementation
is very simple requiring four fields , one script and one layout.
A Connection Manager is included which simplifies the process of
mapping the
existing FileMaker Pro solution to the supported Outlook fields
(100 Contact fields, 27 Appointment fields, 26 eMail fields, 30
Task fields and 10 Notes fields -- Nobody can touch that!). A complete
FileMaker Pro demonstration solution is included with all functions
and scripts
implemented.
Developers can selectively implement support for specific Outlook
item types in their FileMaker solution (for example, Contacts and
eMail but not Appointments, Notes or Tasks).
Synchronization
is bidirectional. Changes can be made in FileMaker to any item
linked to an Outlook item, or in Outlook. Synchronization occurs
every time Outlook is started, or at user specified intervals.
If working offline (no access to FileMaker or Outlook), the changes
will be updated the next time the user has access to both. User
has control over which system takes precedence, for each item
type. For example, FileMaker Contact items could update
Outlook Contacts, whereas Outlook Appointments could update FileMaker
Appointment items. In addition, a Full Synchronization feature
is included which allows a user to synchronize their entire Outlook
and all linked items with their FileMaker solution. This includes
all Contacts, eMails, Tasks, Appointments and Notes.
Attachments
are fully supported. Attachments to an eMail, Appointment or Task
are archived in a file directory for access by all FileMaker users.
Most importantly, attachments can be added while in Outlook. When
the modified Outlook item is saved or sent, the attachment and
all item details are posted immediately back to FileMaker.
The
use of Outlook folders
is fully supported. A FileMaker item can be saved into any Outlook
folder, either existing, or newly created. Complete folder paths
within Outlook can be initiated directly from FileMaker, such as
creating Tasks for a specific project in "//Personal Folders/Client
Projects/ABC Company/Project 123". Imagine the organizational
potential driven by your FileMaker solution. Users can move linked
items in folders, or the complete folders themselves, anywhere
within the Outlook folder tree, without affecting synchronization
or functionality.
